Newsletter  26th February 2019

We have a few things coming up in the next few weeks that we wanted to let you know about.

Iron Kidz

Well done to Bonnar Hall and Mac Bunny for taking part in the Taupo Ironkidz event on Sunday. It sounds like you both did your very best and had a great time.

Swimming at A.C Baths

We will be traveling in for swimming lessons at the A.C Baths from the 18th of March each day until the 29th of March. Our swimming time is from 12 till 12.30pm. We have booked a people mover to use for transport and applied for a grant to pay for it.  Your child will need to have a pair of swimming togs and a towel plus a waterproof swimming bag each day.

A permission slip will come home a week before for you to sign and return to school.

Rangitaiki School Athletics Day.

We will be holding our athletics day on Friday at 1 pm if it is fine.  Ring the school at morning tea time if you want to check to see if it is going ahead.

The children will be competing in long distance, sprints, high jump, long jump and vortex throwing.  Please come along a help out and support your child/ children. You may take them home afterward but let the bus driver know if they will not be on the bus.

Random Acts of Kindness

This term we are learning about kindness and filling other peoples buckets. As part of this study, we wanted to do some random acts of kindness for people in Taupo and our community. We came up with a list of things we could do.  We want to make cookies and give them to elderly people at the senior citizens’ rooms, take doughnuts to the police station and  fire station, take a box of chocolates to the hospital for the nurses and doctors, Take some dog toys to the SPCA,  and give Mr Whippy $20 for free icecreams for the next few customers.

I was really impressed with the choices the children made and are excited to see their faces and listen to how they feel when they complete their random act of kindness.

You can help out by donating a dog toy for us to take to the SPCA .  We will make and wrap the cookies together at school.

Random Act of Kindness trip will be on Friday the 8th of March . Rose and I will drive the children into town in two cars and return in time for the bus.

Working Bee

Our bike track is looking terrible, the warm weather over the holidays has caused it to become overgrown and full of blackberries. We need to have a working bee to get it sorted but this will need to take all of us. Please commit to helping out for a couple of hours to get the track up and running again for our children.

Sunday the 10th of March   3pm-5pm with drinks and sausages on the bbq after.

We will need weedeaters, hedge-cutters, sprayers, roundup or similar to kill blackberry, wheelbarrows, slashers etc.

I will send home a notice to see how many people we can get to come along as It isn’t fair if only a couple turn up.   If we need to change the date we can do that as well.

B.O.T

We would like to invite you to come along and see what is involved in a Board meeting. We have our elections coming up soon and will be looking for some new faces to add to our hard-working team.

The next meeting is March the 13th at 6.30pm in the staffroom.

Chickens

Yesterday we discovered a new baby chick in our coop. The children have named it ‘Diamond’.  There are also more eggs that could hatch so we are very excited.

Teaching and Learning

We are well on our way through our terms work already. The children have all had reading assessments completed and I am proud to say that ALL children have gone up levels. Some have moved up 3 levels, which shows me that they have been reading at home.

Music lessons are progressing and the students are learning the ukelele this term as well as some really fun Indian dance moves.

Kawakawa leaves

I am looking for some Kawakawa leaves to use with some beeswax to make some skin cream with the children. If you know where we can find some, please let us know.

Handyman

We are looking for a handyman to work one day a month. The job would involve the maintenance of the school.  Things like; cleaning the school of cobwebs, changing water filters, removal of rubbish, bike fixing, trimming trees, pest control, weed eating etc.  The applicant would need to be police checked and have references.

Please ring the school for more information.
