News letter April

End of Term 1

What a fantastic term we have had. All students are engaged and learning. Mrs. Drake and I have noticed such a different feel to the school since our trip to Matua Tom Loughlin’s wilderness wonderland.  All the children are such good friends and looking after each other like a big family.  I hope we can plan to make the trip a bi-annual occurrence.

The children are all progressing really well with spelling, reading, and writing. We are using an online website to help with our writing and this is really making a difference with the older children. We had two ‘Write that Essay’ across school teachers come and work with the children on sentence structure which was an enjoyable morning for all.

Our topic of Butterflies and Bees this term has resulted in some very good artwork that is displayed around the school.  We have also been busy making pottery coil pots and paper mache bees.

School Holidays

The holidays start on the 17th of April ( this Saturday). We start back at school on the 3rd of May. Please make sure all children are doing some reading at home during the holidays.

Term 2 is all about “Community” and we will continue on with our cultural knowledge learning that we started with Tuwharetoa. We have a trip onboard the floating classroom ( Chris Jollys boats) on the 3rd of June, to visit local historic places and learn about our stunning lake and area. We will be working towards a  ‘Special Friends Day’ on the 11th of June. A day when students invite someone special to school for morning tea and to share in some activities.

Term 2 will also see us welcome our two new classmates. Madeline Bush and Bradley Manson will start on the first day of term 2. They are already part of the school family as they have been coming to our playgroups for a while and have had a few school visits.

Next term the children will be wearing winter uniforms as it is getting colder.

Happy Holidays!

Principal
